Do I Need an Executive Coach?

Do you need a coach? Most people don't. Here are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you need a coach.

Do you need an executive coach? No.  No one needs a coach. The overwhelming majority of people do not have a coach.  Their performance is average and normal.  When you are happy or satisfied with your performance, you don’t think you are in a competitive marketplace, or you have some guaranteed position, role or income, you do not need a coach.   What you are doing is working out. Relax, what could change that could affect your security?

Who Needs a Coach?

If one or more of the following apply to you, you may want to investigate hiring a coach:

  • Your role is competitive, and someone could outperform you
  • Your marketplace is drifting faster than you able to keep up
  • You are not making the income you assess you are worth
  • Technology in your area is shifting at a rapid pace
  • Your education occurs as outdated

If I Want a Coach Where Do I Start?

Before you start looking for a coach or asking your friends, family or colleagues for a coach referral, make a list of the top three areas in which you want help to build your skill.  Then talk to your friends, family and colleagues to discuss which area is the one you want to focus on to improve your performance.

Do not start looking for a coach until you know what help you are looking for.  No one can competently coach you in every area of your life.  

Ask yourself if this area that you are committed to build your skill in will make a difference in your performance. Will building this skill increase your happiness, peace, relationships, income, and resilience? If you answer yes to a majority of these, you are ready to start looking for a coach.
